Came across BLOGFLUX and its lists of top sites.  Will try and report back.  If you want to read what they say about themselves here it is;

Blog Top Sites is a top sites directory that aims to show you the best blogs available. We have over a dozen categories to suit your tastes.

Ranking of pages is done according to the number of unique visits each blog receives every week. Advanced anti-cheating measures are undertaken alongwith manual checking to ensure no cheating occurs.

Our backend has been custom built from the ground-up to be able to sustain high load and throughput.

At the beginning of each week, we reset everyone to zero. This helps keep the playing field even and allows new sites to make an impact on the rankings quickly.

If you are a blog owner and wish to have your site listed, please register your site. Remember that you will be only ranked if you add the ranking HTML to your blog.
